Nail fatigue on older roofs, frost damage on porous concrete tiles, and the odd one broken by a walking board. Matched replacements bedded or clipped in, not siliconed.
Valleys and abutments
Mortar-filled valleys and thin lead split along the fold. Renewed in code 4 or code 5 lead, or a GRP valley trough where the pitch suits it.
Verges, bargeboards and dry verge
Gable ends take the worst of a westerly. Failed mortar verges cut back and replaced with dry verge units that clamp the tile edge instead of relying on a bond.
Storm and tree damage
Lanes round here are lined with mature trees. Branch strikes and lifted outbuilding sheets get made safe first, priced afterwards.

When a repair stops being the sensible answer
There is a point on every roof where patching becomes throwing money at it, and we look for three signs. Widespread spalling on concrete tiles, where the surface has gone chalky across whole slopes. Nail sickness on old clay or slate, where the fixings have rusted through and tiles slip somewhere new every month. And sagging between rafters, which points at the structure or at rotted battens rather than the covering.
Two of those three and we will say so and price the re-cover alongside the repair, so you can compare them. One or none, and repair is almost always the better spend.
