What the visit involves
Scraped by hand with a purpose-made blade, working up the slope so nothing is dragged across the tile face, debris bagged rather than swept into a border. Gutters and downpipes cleared afterwards, because they will be full whatever state they started in. Then a biocide at low pressure, which kills the spores left in the surface and pushes regrowth out to five years or more.
We do not pressure wash roofs and will decline the job if that is what is wanted. A jet lance strips the dense outer skin off a concrete tile in seconds, exposing the porous core so it soaks up water and grows moss back quicker than before. It also drives water under the laps and loosens ridge mortar. NFRC guidance and the tile makers' own literature both warn against it.

Why it is worse on this side of the county
Two reasons, both geography. Aspect first — downland villages sit in valleys and on slopes rather than flat ground, so far more roofs here have a face that barely sees sun between October and March. Then tree cover: the lanes through Bucklebury, Cold Ash and the Lambourn valley are lined with mature beech and lime, meaning constant leaf litter, permanent shade and no drying wind.
