Roofline is the part people only look at when the paint goes or water runs down the wall. It is also the cheapest thing on a house to get wrong, because a failed gutter does not stay a gutter problem. It soaks the wall, then the rafter feet, then the wall plate, and by the time anyone rings the bill has moved from hundreds into thousands.
What the job actually involves
The common shortcut is capping — new uPVC screwed straight over the old timber. It looks identical on day one and hides whatever the timber was doing. We take the old boards off, check the rafter ends and wall plate, splice out any rot, and fit new fascia to sound timber.
Fascias and bargeboards
Full replacement in 18mm or 25mm uPVC, or painted timber where a period property or conservation area calls for it.
Soffits and eaves ventilation
Vented soffit or continuous eaves vents giving the 10mm or 25mm airflow the construction requires. Sealed eaves plus a modern membrane is how new roofs end up with damp lofts.
Guttering
Marley and Freefoam half-round, square and deep-flow uPVC, 112mm to 170mm, or seamless aluminium. Sized for the roof area draining into it, not what was there before.
Downpipes and outlets
68mm and 80mm pipes taken to a gully or soakaway that works, with a shoe rather than a pipe pointing at your brickwork.
Clearing and repair
Blocked runs cleared, sagging brackets refitted to the right fall, split joints replaced.

Rural gutters have a harder life
Half our roofline calls come down to leaf load. A house on a village lane under mature limes fills its gutters twice a year, and standard half-round with a 68mm outlet cannot cope. Three answers: step up to a deep-flow profile that holds a third more water, fit brush or mesh guards under the canopy, or put a clearing visit in the diary each November. Leaving it does not work — a full gutter freezes in February, and ice is heavy enough to pull brackets out of a fascia.
Run length is the other rural factor. Farmhouses and converted ranges often drain forty metres into one downpipe, because that is where the drain happens to be, so the gutter runs full along its whole length in any real rain. A second outlet costs a couple of hundred pounds and fixes a problem people have lived with for years.
Doing it while the scaffold is up
Roofline is far cheaper as part of a re-roof than as its own visit.
